Informationen, Wissen und Medien spielen in unserer Gesellschaft eine zunehmende Rolle. Die Informationsgesellschaft setzt dabei auf die Ausbildung 'neuer Schl?sselkompetenzen' wie Informations- und Medienkompetenz und die Bereitschaft zum lebenslangen Lernen. Jedoch sucht man im f?deralen Bildungsland Deutschland an den Schulen nach fl?chendeckenden Medienbildungskonzepten und einer Chancengleichheit gew?hrleistenden Vermittlung von Informations- und Medienkompetenz vergeblich. 2003 lag Deutschland in der schulischen Computernutzung mit nur 21% auf dem letzten Platz der an der PISA-Befragung teilnehmenden OECD-Staaten. Auch 2011 setzt nur knapp ein Viertel der Lehrkr?fte ?berhaupt neue Medien im Unterricht h?ufig (mehrmals pro Woche) ein, davon fallen 88% der Nutzung auf Internetrecherchen. 'Digitale Medien kommen in den Schulen noch zu selten zum Einsatz, um den Sch?lern ausreichend Medienkompetenz zu vermitteln und auf Studium und Beruf vorzubereiten'. Im wissenschaftlichen Bildungssektor hat sich inzwischen die Idee der 'Teaching Library' etabliert, die die Vermittlung von Informations- und Medienkompetenz als eine Kernaufgabe versteht. Auch ?ffentliche Bibliotheken werden zunehmend als au?erschulischer Lernort f?r Informationskompetenz und selbstbestimmtes lebenslanges Lernen gesehen und erweitern dahingehend ihre Angebote. Bei all diesen ?ffentlichen und wissenschaftlich gef?hrten Diskussionen bleibt die Schulbibliothek jedoch fast g?nzlich unbeachtet. Dies erstaunt umso mehr, da doch die Schulbibliothek per se sowohl in einen allgemeinen Bildungsauftrag als auch in die jeweilige Schule mit ihrem speziellen Bildungsschwerpunkt eingebunden ist und ihr prop?deutisches Potential f?r das Lernen im Zusammenhang mit Informationen, Wissen und Medien offensichtlich scheint.
